1. PRESSURE FLUIDS CONDUCTION

Precision accessories made by IBIDE FITTING PLASTIC S.L. follow the UNE-EN 1452-3 regulation about CHANNELING SYSTEMS IN PLASTIC MATERIALS FOR WATER CONDUCTION. NON PLASTICIZIED (PVC-U) POLI(VINYL CHLORIDE).

This regulation establishes the requirements for a channeling system and its components made with non plasticized (PVC-U) poli(vinyl chloride). A channeling system must be used for water distribution in industrial and agricultural facilities, pools, irrigation, and so on. The maximum service temperature will be 25ºC, according to the nominal pressures table.

PVC behavior is influenced by temperature, since resistance decreases depending on service temperature. If we want to calculate service pressure for temperatures higher than 25ºC, we will apply the following corrective elements to the nominal pressure:

presion-02

Maximum acceptable temperature of the fluid will be 45ºC.

Example of service pressure calculation using the corrective element:

The maximum pressure to which the system can be subjected will be calculated if the following conditions are fulfilled:

T = 40 ºC

Pnominal = 16 bar

If we read above graphic, we can see that for a T= 40 ºC, there is a corrective element of 0,7. Therefore, maximum service pressure will be calculated as follows:

Pmax= 16 · 0,7 = 11,2 bar

In the above graphic we can see how maximum service temperature decreases when temperature increases, thus, PVC fittings are not suitable for hot sanitary and heating water distribution and transport.

1.1. INTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL ACCORDING TO REGULATION UNE-EN 1452-3

The accessories made by IBIDE FITTING PLASTIC S.L. are subjected to a quality control during the manufacturing process and once the final product is finished, in which the controlled characteristics are monitored with some tests and at a frequency established in the next chart:

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THREADS

The use of Teflon thread or tape and liquid Teflon is recommended as sealant in threads in order to guarantee tightness. In case of using Teflon thread, the manufacturer operating instructions must be strictly followed regarding the recommended number of turns for every diameter (annexed table), in order to avoid that the excessive application causes the thread fitting break.

Recommended number of turns

THREAD DIAMETER (inches) RECOMMENDED Nº OF TURNS
½” 6-7
¾” 7-9
1” 8-12
1 ½” 10-15
2” 15-25
2 ½” 20-30
3” 25-35
3 ½” 30-40
4” 35-40
If you want to carry out a PVC-metal transition through threads, it is recommended that the male element is made with PVC-U. For a suitable fittings thread, it is fundamental to fit together the threads, in order to avoid thread deformations during the threaded process.

4. INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GLUED PRESSURE FITTINGS

In order to make a correct installation of the glued fittings and to ensure an ideal operation, a series of recommendations must be followed as well as a good usage must be done when applying the IBIDE glue and cleaning product.

Ibide glue

The IBIDE glue for PVC-U gluing must be used for joining pipes and accessories, based on homopolymer resin of POLIVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC) and stabilized Tetrahydrofuran (THF), especially for joining pipe systems and rigid PVC accessories in pressure systems. This glue is in compliance with regulation UNE-EN 14814 ADHESIVES FOR THERMOPLASTIC PIPING SYSTEMS FOR FLUIDS UNDER PRESSURE – SPECIFICATIONS, especially designed for joining pipes systems and accessories which meet the regulations UNE-EN 1452 and UNE-EN 1329.

Homologated glue (CE marked) for channeling systems of thermoplastic materials that transport fluids at an up to PN16 pressure, in installations for not drinking water transport / elimination / storage. It is also suitable for drinking water channeling.

The glue has a high content of thixotropy (high viscous appearance and optimal flow) which ensures the plays filling, which evades leaks possibility by acting as a PVC chemical welder due to its composition. Its moderated quick initial grip enables small rectifications in the installation execution and it makes easier the gluing of big diameters, as the glued joints have resistance and aging features similar to the rigid PVC ones.

This product, stored in its original packing and in a fresh and dry place, keeps its properties at least for 2 years. As it is an inflammable product, the properly preventive measure must be taken as well as it must be stored away from flames, sparks and heat sources, in non-smoking areas.

It is advisable not to store this glue at temperatures below 5ºC, since viscosity increases, so the glue applicability is affected. It is necessary, in certain cases, to acclimatize the glue at a room temperature and stir it in order to reduce viscosity again.

You can check the technical features here.

INFLAMMABILITY Very inflammable
OPEN TIME (at 23 ºC) 3 minutes Mx.
STUFFING CAPACITY / MAXIMUM CLEARANCE + 0,6 mm.
DRY TIME ( in normal conditions) 24 hours
PRESSURE RESSISTANCE (20 ºC) 51,2 bar
PRESSURE RESSISTANCE (40 ºC) 20,8 bar
APPLICATION TEMPERATURE -5 a +30 ºC
SERVICE TEMPERATURE -5 a +50 ºC

IBIDE CLEANER

Solvent liquid that acts as a primer, chemically preparing the surfaces where it has been applied and guaranteeing a perfect weld. It is not a glue diluent and it does not attack the rigid PVC.

It is especially appropriate for:

Cleaning and degreasing of pipes, sleeves and other rigid PVC elements before applying the glue

This product, stored in its original packing and in a fresh and dry place, keeps its properties at least for 2 years. As it is an inflammable product, the properly preventive measure must be taken as well as it must be stored away from flames, sparks and heat sources, in non-smoking areas.

FOR A RIGHT GLUEING

encoladura-1Firstly, the necessary tube lengthfor the joint is marked out according to the following equation:

encoladura-2Secondly, the tube is cut with the appropriate tools ensuring a cut perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tube, so there are not shavings or cut defects.

encoladura-3Thirdly, a chamfer in the edges of the tube entrance is made with a 35-40 angle in order to make the set up easier with the measures, according to the diameter, indicated in the following table:

Piping D (mm) 16 20-50 63-225 250-315 400
(mm) 1-2 2-4 4-6 5-7 6-8

encoladura-4Fourthly, the tube is introduced into the fitting marking the insertion length.

encoladura-5Fifthly, the tube surface to be glued and the fitting are cleaned with cleaner solvent and using an absorbing paper or a cleaned cloth. The surface must be matt. Do not touch the cleaned surface and keep the cleaner solvent in a fresh and dry place.

A scrupulous cleaning is essential during the whole process, as the remaining humidity, dust, soil, shavings or any other odd element may cause defective joints making the leaks appearance easy.

Sixthly, the glue is checked: after being shaken, it must easily flow. It is recommended to use the glue at the room temperature interval indicated by the manufacturer.

Seventhly, the glue is applied with an appropriate brush according to the piping diameter (view table), always in longitudinal sense, from inwards to outwards. The application order is first of all the fitting and then the tube.

PIPING (mm) 16-32 40-63 75-315
BRUSH SIZE (mm) 8 25x3 50x5

Brush-strokes should be uniform, from the bottom to the end in order to avoid bubbles formation. The tube is immediately introduced in the fitting (introduce it before 1 minute from the glue application) without turning or bending.

The assembly is kept immobile during 30 seconds and the glue excess is eliminated with a cleaned cloth or an absorbing paper without using solvents, since it is convenient to avoid that the glue stains the tubes or fittings outside the joint area. The joint must not be manipulated during 30 seconds until the glue develops the initial joint, while for below 10ºC temperatures, the waiting time shall increase at least 15 minutes.

Finally, the waiting time for an appropriate glue cured depends on the room temperature. It is recommended to wait 24 hours before straining the installation. If the installation must be strained before 24 hours from the last joint, we need to wait one hour per atmosphere pressure that the installation must support. For more information, it is recommended to read regulation  ENV 1452-6.

AERIAL INSTALLATIONS

If an aerial installation is made, we need to make sure that the fastening is made with fasteners of an appropriate material. We need to prevent from an excessive necking in order to avoid damages. The contact area between the fastener and the tube shall be soft and without sharped edges that may ram the tube surface.

INSTALLATIONS IN LOW TEMPERATURE AREAS

If the installation will take place in areas where there are low temperatures (below 5ºC), a variation in the glue procedure shall be made. Before making any glue joint, the ends to be join will be heated with a hot air gun (appropriate for works in inflammable environments) up to 25-30ºC. The joint must be kept from 20ºC to 30ºC during 10 minutes in order to ensure a correct dry of the glue. Moreover, we will need to take into account that if the area is liable to freezes, we will need to have outlet valves or isolation taps in order to avoid breaks in the installation fittings due to the freezing of the liquids transported by piping.

UNDERGROUND INSTALLATIONS

In the event of underground installations, a trench with enough space to work on the piping must be built, taking into account the safety dispositions to avoid falls or entanglements. The trench width is established by the following formula:

L=Trench length (cm).

D=Piping nominal diameter (cm).

The trench bed shall be leveled and stones or hard objects that may harm the piping must be eliminated.

It is convenient to prepare the bed with fine sand of easy compaction and with a granulometry lower than 20mm and at least 10 cm high.

encoladura-6

The highest part of the pipe shall be at a minimum depth of 80cm and the trench stuffing will be made with the same material as the bed in 10cm manually compacted capes, up to 0,3m high, and the rest can be made mechanically.

It is also recommended to make a load test of the installation before proceeding to bury it. It is recommended to wait to make to bury the pipes in the trenches after 10 or 12 hours of the glue cured.

In the event of mobile loads on the installation as in conductions that go under roads, the specifications in the regulation UNE-53331 shall be taken into account.

5. POLYPROPYLENE PRESSURE FITTINGS

A. CLAMP SADDLES

This accessory allows outlets and derivations in a PE or PVC piping in an easy and accurate way, apart from saving regarding the cost of material and labor. It also allows the startup of the installation in an immediate way, without needing to wait the glue dry due to the lack of gluing.

IBIDE FITTING PLASTIC S.L. offers a great variety of measures which goes from 25-1/2” to 200-4” in simple clamp saddles and reinforced clamp saddles. It is advisable to use a reinforced clamp saddle in the event of a metallic element to be threaded in the clamp saddle.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SIMPLE CLAMP SADDLES

First of all, we select the diameter of the hole to be made in the pipe. It shall always be lower than the diameter of the ring seal which goes with the clamp saddle. We make the hole.

Secondly, we put the ring seal in the corresponding slot and we center the clamp saddle exit with the hole made in the pipe. We adjust the covered part together with the exit in the pipe and we put the nuts in their corresponding slots.

Finally, we put the screws and proceed to tighten them, if there are four or six screws always crossed.
